The night before making your French toast, cut bread into thick "fingers" and lay out on a tray. Cover lightly with a paper towel and leave out overnight to stale. This will result in firmer sticks for dipping.
In a large bowl, combine eggs, half and half, vanilla extract, and a pinch of salt.
In another bowl, combine cinnamon and sugar and set aside.
Preheat a frying pan over medium heat with 1 tablespoon butter in the pan.
Roll the bread sticks in egg mixture quickly, shake off excess and place in pan. Turn and cook each side until golden brown and the sticks are firm.
Immediately roll sticks in cinnamon sugar to coat. Serve with maple syrup for dunking.

Who needs to grab these out of the frozen food isle when this recipe is this simple? This recipe is kicked up a notch by using slices of cinnamon raisin challah. I have to look for that type of bread the next time at the market.

French toast was a treat in our family when I was growing up. When I started keeping house, I made french toast sticks for my older sister and she as flabbergasted. I thought that was beautiful.

What a wonderfully quick, easy and fun idea this is for breakfast. I've tried Challah bread before and think it's delicious in bread pudding but I had no idea they sold it with raisins already in it. French toast has never really been my kind of meal but seeing how it's got raisins and rolled in cinnamon sugar, this would make a great snack!
