Preparation Time15 min
Cooking Time20 min
- 2 cups thawed frozen stir-fry vegetables
- 1 cup diced or shredded cooked chicken
- 2 tablespoons hoisin sauce
- 1 package (17.3 ounces) Pepperidge Farm® Puff Pastry Sheets, thawed
- 1 egg, beaten
- sesame seeds (as needed)
Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F. Unfold the pastry sheets on a lightly floured surface. Cut each pastry sheet into 4 (about 5-inch) squares.
Stir the vegetables, chicken and hoisin sauce in a medium bowl. Spoon about 1/4 cup vegetable mixture on the lower third of each pastry square. Fold 2 sides over the filling and roll up like a jelly roll. Place the filled pastries seam-side down onto a baking sheet. Brush the pastries with the egg and sprinkle with the sesame seeds, if desired.
Bake for 20 minutes or until the pastries are golden brown.

It's a bit ironic that I would find this recipe since last night I tried baking some cheesecake eggrolls that turned out to be an epic fail in an attempt to avoid frying. But, this concept is a great idea because eggrolls can pretty much be anything you want them to be based on the filling. Frying can be such a pain and although the filling is usually pretty good for you it's not exactly the healthiest way to go. I think I'm really gonna enjoy making my eggrolls like this...and I can't wait to try it!

I had just encountered a recipe for egg rolls that used slices of white bread that were flattened as the wrapper, and now I see the idea of using puff pastry in place of the traditional wrapper. I really like the idea of baking them rather than frying them. Besides being a bit healthier, there are times when I really don't want to bother with the mess of frying, so this is a good alternative.

This looks very delicious. It doesn't look like a traditional egg roll. Most of the egg rolls that I have eaten have very little vegetables and meat on the inside. This looks like you could eat it as a small meal or snack. I love egg rolls. This recipe looks easy to make.

I was looking at this picture and I think this is very similar to Chinese spring rolls. Chines spring rolls use spring roll wrappers which can probably substitute for the pastry sheets if you cannot find this in your area. These Baked Chinese Egg Rolls are comfort food for a lot of people especially for most Asians. It is stuffed with veggies and wrapped in pastry shells or spring roll wrappers. For easier cooking, or if you don't have an oven, you may deep-fry these egg rolls instead of bake them.
